This is where Gingerfrost makes her home. This den is rather large, big enough to fit multiple cats if need to be. In the back there is a crack in the cave's wall where he/she stores all of her herbs. Near that crack there are two nests, one for Gingerfrost and one for her apprentice, apprentice.
Along the inside of the den there are twelve nests, ranging in size so that way he/she can fit both kits and warriors into this place. The medicine cat also has a few nests outside for patients that either don't want to stay inside the den or when the other nests or full, she can have them sleep out there, the less serious ones, that is.

Gingerfrost ran her paws on the herb supply, carefully counting the quanity and examining the quality. She needed feverfew and juniper. Quickly, Gingerfrost made a mental note to collect some, maybe even get an apprentice for help. Maybe not. She went out into the clearing to go leave camp.
It was a slightly breezy day, nothing too serious. Very mild weather; she reflected; with the short winds I could scent the herbs easier. Indeed, it was a fine day for collecting herbs. The sun had a glow to it that wasn't scorching but warmed camp in a peaceful way.
Gingerfrost took in the warmth for a few seconds then zipped back to reality. Focus, she thought juniper and feverfew...juniper and feverfew.... She used her paws to guide her around the place she knew so well. Then, she pushed past the brambles and into the forest.
The medicine cat knew exactly where everything was that she needed. After getting the herbs, and enjoying the nice weather, she decided to go back to camp. That's when she scented something that smelled exactly like mouse. Mouse. Since she couldn't see, she followed the trail. She could hear it squeaking. When she knew that she was close enough, she pounces. Gingerfrost felt her claws sink into something and knew that she must have caught it. She somehow managed to get the herbs and fresh-kill in her mouth and went back to camp.
ThunderClan camp was still calm when she returned. She dropped her fresh-kill down and went back to her den.
The den was the same as when she had left. No noise, just peace. She set the herbs down and quickly ran her paw across the herbs just to check that everything was in order. Perfect. That's when she heard the small, firmiliar pawsteps of Specklekit.
"What's wrong, Specklekit?" she asked soothingly, her voice simple "Leg bothering you again?"

SPECKLEKIT - - - { mirror on the wallSpecklekit had been laying in the nursery after her talk with the leader earlier that morning. She was thinking bitterly how cats just stared at her disability and couldn't seem to look past it and see her for herself. The kit was certain that now the only reason why any cat in this clan knew her name was because she was referred to as "the kit with the mangled leg and missing tail." But she was so good at hiding her sadness it was insane. She was young and still had many, many moons before she should have been able to smile and ignore her disability. But now, as she was approaching the medicine cat's den, the wounds of only three days having ripped open and bleeding, she bore a smile. She felt the sunlight sink into her fur and she felt like the warmth was giving her some kind of strength.
Yeah, you can say that. She said with a faint chuckle. Even for a kit who was in extreme pain, and with her wounds bleeding, she was able to have a faint smile on her face. The metallic smell of blood made her stomach do flips and almost instantly the little cat shivered and trembled as she closed her eyes quietly. But, I was stretching and playing... and I kind of ripped my wounds open again. She felt her fur grow warm for a few moments. It had only been a few days since she had been returned to this den as a bloody mess. She was indeed still exhausted, but after having slept for the last two days... she found she had energy. She often had the problem of her leg giving way under her and after battling her way back to her paws, the little kit was always way to get back to her feet. But now she was sitting with her bad leg sitting out awkwardly. She waited patiently for Gingerfrost to be ready to help her.
Her thoughts drifted back to the only thing she could remember before she had fallen asleep. Her father dying at her side, begging and pleading with Gingerfrost to save his kit before himself. He had died while waiting for the attention that Gingerfrost had given her. A pang of sadness touched her heart before she looked down, feeling her thoughts thicken as she thought of her parents. Both of them had died to save their kits. Within moons of each other. But yet this little kit was taking it one day at a time, never looking back.

Gingerfrost sighed. But it wasn't with frustration at the young kit--although, she was slightly frustrated--it was a sigh of joy. The medicine cat had been bored since dawn, and this was something for her to do.
Gingerfrost stretched her paw over her herbs, identifying the cobwebs. As she picked them up, she continued speaking to Specklekit "Try and stay off it, even if it does feel better." she said, placing the cobwebs carefully on the wound. Being that she was blind, Gingerfrost had to be extra careful about where she placed things and what herb to pick up. If she had an apprentice, she would be a bit more relieved, she but had been trained to know each herb by scent and touch, instead of physical appearance. It had taken Gingerfrost a bit long to master the scent and feeling of every herb in the forest, but she had learned well, and knew what to do. She cautiously placed the cobwebs on, lightly running her paw over the wound to make sure that she had placed it right. Perfect.
"Does it hurt?" she asked Specklekit. If it hurt, Gingerfrost would give her some poppy seeds to ease the pain and lull Specklekit to slumber. But Gingerfrost didn't think that it would still hurt terribly to Specklekit. As Gingerfrost knew, the young kit was strong and young, the pain should have slightly subsided by now. Sometimes Gingerfrost wondered about Specklekit. On the day of Specklekit's accident, Gingerfrost had at first thought that the young kit was destined to become a medicine cat, but like all young kits, she was probably fascinated in battle. But maybe Specklekit would one day be her apprentice. Gingerfrost couldn't tell so easily. But something, possibly StarClan, was telling her that there was something different about Specklekit. Maybe.

SPECKLEKIT - - - { mirror on the wallThe kit stayed perfectly still as Gingerfrost worked on her wounds. She winced when the cat's touch brushed along the wound but she said nothing, neither in complaint or to indicate the pain that she felt. She heard the cat ask if she was in pain, and her first instinct was to shake her head. But as she thought about it a little longer she realized that Gingerfrost couldn't see her doing it. So instead, the little tabby cleared her throat with a soft cough before flicking her tail and glancing at the medicine cat again. No, I am okay. She said quickly. She flicked her tail back and forth before wrapping it tightly around her paws. Her nose twitched and the whiskers quivered at the tips. She watched the cat before her in complete silence before slowly limping back a few steps until she was able to sit. Her bad, stiff leg was sticking out awkwardly before her and the kit took in the smell of the herbs around her.
Slowly, her light blue eyes dragged over the herbs and she slowly glanced back at Gingerfrost. What do the yellow flowers do? She asked with curiosity as she slowly moved closer to the pile of herbs and she slowly sniffed at them, their scent had almost died completely but they were still pretty flowers. She twitched her whiskers and as they quivered she looked almost expectantly back over at Gingerfrost. She wanted to know what it was and seeing as she had nothing else to do with her spare time, she saw no point in not asking.

Gingerfrost wasn't entirely sure if Specklekit was as "okay" as she said. Gingerfrost couldn't see her, but you could be blind and know that Specklekit was in some sort of pain. But if Specklekit claimed that she didn't need the extra remedies, then Gingerfrost would suspect that the pain wasn't entirely severe.
That's when Specklekit asked Gingerfrost what the yellow flowers did. The medicine cat expected the young kit to be speaking of marigold, and answered. Before answering, Gingerfrost noticed the spark of interest in the young cat's voice. Maybe she is to be a medicine cat, thought Gingerfrost hopefully. But that wouldn't be for some moons, so Gingerfrost suspected that it started with this simple question "It's marigold, young one." she said "It stops infection and bleeding." Gingerfrost had memorized it off of the top of her head. Marigold, stops infection, bleeding, and the inflammation of joints.
Gingerfrost was still suspicious of Specklekit's interest in herbs. Specklekit was someone that Gingerfrost would be strangely pleased to mentor. Plus, Specklekit was probably to become her apprentice, as she could not possibly be a warrior with her injured leg, just as Gingerfrost couldn't have become a warrior because of her eyesight. If you thought about it, the two she-cats weren't that different. "Are you sure that your leg doesn't still hurt?" she asked, still in the amazement that it wouldn't hurt after such a terrible accident.

SPECKLEKIT - - - { mirror on the wallSpecklekit flicked her ear toward the medicine cat as she closed her eyes. She felt as though she were losing everything, the dreams she had to be a warrior, a mentor, and to have a mate. But she felt as though she were going insane, she felt as though she was losing her entire life. Slowly the little cat's eyes flickered back of to Gingerfrost, listening intently to what she was telling her about the herb. For some reason, she was very interested and knew that she would never forget what it was or what it meant. Slowly, the little cat shifted, her paws carrying her toward it with each limp. She lowered her head down and sniffed it, taking in the scent and committing it to memory.
Marigold is pretty. She said half smiling while the other half of her was subconsciously listening intently to Gingerfrost's words. I'm okay. It doesn't hurt. It was a lie, it stung and burned, it stabbed and made her want to cry, but she wouldn't admit that. There were other cats to take care of too. Cats that could become warriors and protect the clan, she hardly mattered and should have never been survived that fox attack. Her father was the one who was needed in this clan... not her.

"Marigold is the prettiest that you're to find in herbs." she said "I shouldn't be saying this but what I know of the sight...the others are, well, not as lovely. Gingerfrost chuckled a bit in the back of her throat "Okay, if it doesn't pain you I won't give you anything for it." she said, not sounding convinced at all. Infact, her voice was filled with sorrow. Poor Specklekit must be crushed to find that her dreams of being a warrior had practically been tossed away because of an incident. Gingerfrost blinked.
The elegant ginger she-cat turned to Specklekit "Is there anything else you wish to speak of?" she asked, wondering if Specklekit might ask her about any other herbs...or maybe an apprenticeship? But Gingerfrost doubted the possibility. Every kit practically dreamed of being an amazing warrior, leader even, and Gingerfrost had figured that Specklekit wouldn't really be much different from any other kit in the nursery.

s p e c k l e k i tSpecklekit stayed where she was for several long moments, thoughts twisting around in her head. The thought of being allowed to do something with the rest of her life was working it's way through her mind and spreading like a contagious disease. She wanted to be useful to her clan, and as far as she knew, Gingerfrost had no apprentice, and if she could do it with being blind... well Specklekit must have been able to do it too! Slowly the little cat flicked her tail and moved closer to Gingerfrostt, absolutely terrified to ask the question. But slowly she parted her jaws and looked up at Gingerfrost. Gingerfrostt? She seemed almost terrified to ask the question and slowly moved herself closer to her, her bright blue eyes slowly sparkling with hope. What does it take to be a medicine cat? Do you think... do you think I would be able to do it? There seemed to be excitement building up in her voice, almost like she couldn't stand the idea of not being able to do it. Even with my leg?

Gingerfrost was puzzled by the question. An apprentice. The medicine cat blinked "Specklekit, yes," she said softly, almost to a whisper "when you are six moons of age, I'll take you on as an apprentice...I fear, that with your leg, it's a good use to the Clan, and I believe that you want to help your Clan?" Gingerfrost almost wanted to howl with excitement. She was to have an apprentice! She made a mental note to run it by Crimsonstar later.
Gingerfrost was really excited about that, the thought of just having an apprentice! She would have someone to consult to see if she had put the remedy in the right place, to make sure she didn't bump into trees...mostly everything Gingerfrost had to be super careful of now. She was relieved to know that she could let her guard down slightly.
It was the thought of having an apprentice finally that made Gingerfrost's heart skip a bit faster, but still unnoticable. She blinked at Specklekit and couldn't help but to be happy "I look foward to your apprenticeship." she added with a very enthusiastic tone, but still tame.

s p e c k l e k i tSpecklekit stayed where she was, almost timid to ask or repeat herself and too scared to wait for an answer, but it came quickly and she found a strange feeling of warmth and happiness but at the same time a fearful experience. She was scared to become an apprentice of medicine. What if she didn't remember it all? What if she messed up? What if she wasn't able to learn it all? What if...? Slowly the little she-cat shook her head and ignored it, instead quickly perking up her ears to listening to Gingerfrost. She actually wants me as her apprentice? But what if... what if I mess up? What if I can't do it? If it is too hard? She shivered and looked down at her paws which she shuffled from side to side as if she could squish any doubt she had, but it was hard because she knew she would still doubt herself, the entire time she was learning and practicing herbs. Thank you. I can't wait, either. It was true, she was excited, she really did want to do this. But at the same time, that nagging possibility that she would fail... well honestly it was almost too much for the little she-cat to bear. It took several moments before she looked up at Gingerfrost again and suddenly, the realization hit her. I'm almost six moons! Her high voice squeaked with excitement and she flicked her tail slowly back and forth with excitement yet again. There was the shadow of a doubt in her mind, but she would be okay, her clan needed her to be okay.

Gingerfrost had just realized of Specklekit's age as well. "Indeed, little one." she said "Soon you will be of age..." Gingerfrost licked her paw, washing it thoroughly before speaking once more "...and that means your apprenticeship will follow quickly. You will need to think about truly wanting to be a medicine cat. Is this what you desire?" she asked, still curious as to if the kit really wanted this.
Gingerfrost slowly cocked her head to the left, her left ear flickering in the process. She looked at Specklekit, a sudden surge of pride rushing into her veins. When Gingerfrost retired or died, Specklekit would be her predecessor. It made Gingerfrost cheerful to find this to be true, as she trusted Specklekit. Plus, Gingerfrost felt that Specklekit would be close to StarClan, like most medicine cats were. There was just something good about the little she-kit that made Gingerfrost feel like she was making a right choice in deciding to apprentice the young kit, a good feeling.

s p e c k l e k i tIt felt like she was a stronger than any of the warriors in her clan. She had one dream ruined but another forming, she would follow in the foot steps of medicine, and while it wasn't her first choice, the option to become a medicine cat was a honor, a great honor that she never would thought herself worthy of. But now she was grateful, grateful for her ancestors, for her parents, and for her soon to be mentor as well. All it would have taken was a simple no for this little she-cat's life to be ruined almost entirely. With her tail missing, almost all of her balance was gone with it and she could hardly keep herself on her paws for long periods of time let alone hunt. Hunting would have proved to be impossible and fighting without balance was like walking to StarClan and asking them to kill you. To be truthful, the only thing she wanted to believe when it came to StarClan was that her parents were there, that they were happy and that they would be happy there. StarClan was her only hope of happiness, true happiness, not the kind that she portrayed to the world.
But the question that Gingerfrost had asked was burning into her mind, dancing through her thoughts. In truth? Did she truly want to be a medicine cat? She thought it over slowly, and then looked around at herself, looking at her paws and then at her bad hind leg and then back at her missing tail. Slowly, she drew in a breath, attempting to remove all sadness that she had in her mind. To be truthful? I want to help my clan. I want to be useful. I want to be the one to help the clan out in some way because if I don't then I will be made an elder instead of an apprentice. Her eyes were sparkling and bright with hope. What she wanted, most of all was to be a useful addition to her clan. If I can't do it as a warrior, I can't imagine any other way to do it. It's my only chance to prove myself to the others.
Tears sparkled in the kit's eyes as she looked at Gingerfrost. What she wanted right now was to be happy, was to prove to her clan and to prove to herself that she could be useful. But when it came to her brother... her brother, Ravenkit, was another reason as to why she wanted to do this. She wanted to prove to her brother that she could fix her life after this because her brother had been the worst thing since they had lost their parents. Tears began to spill over and as they rolled down her cheeks, she lowered her face down to stare at the ground. She didn't want to be like this, and while her brother often told her how she would never be able to be a warrior and practically tore her down because of his own misery that he seemed to forget that while she was battered and broken, she still had feelings. Was it really that hard for him to understand?

Gingerfrost was pleased with Specklekit's answer "That's exactly how I expected you to answer," she said "but the answer was great, Specklekit, and it's true." the she-cat looked at Specklekit, but she wasn't sure that she was looking at her, because she didn't see anything anyway. "I think that you'll be a great medicien cat." she continued truthfully. And she could just feel it, just feel, that Specklekit was going to be a great medicine cat, possibly better than herself.
Morning sun poked through the cracks of the den's entrance "You should go," said Gingerfrost, realizing the time, "Because Blitz doesn't wanna post anymore your mother will be waiting for you in the nursery, and I suspect that your siblings will be happy to hear that you can now boast about being a better medicine cat than I." Gingerfrost couldn't help but almost smile, with her eyes swimming with happiness.
